Gay Marriage Arrests

In Egypt eight men were arrested, do to them sharing a video of a suspected wedding. In this video two unknown men were kissing and exchanging rings, which looked as if it was a gay wedding ceremony. Because of the sharing of this video, all eight of them, were sentenced to three years in prison.

In Egypt, gay marriages are known as a huge taboo, meaning that is not accepted by their culture. However, now there are organizations forming in order to get the rights that gay citizens need in Egypt. The users of the website have estimated that about 85 people are arrested in one month from being suspected of gay material or usage.

In my opinion, if you are happy the way you are, then the government should have no say in when or who you get married to, even if that person is of the same sex. Everyone should have the freedom to be accepted and act on the way they feel, as long as it does not put anyone else at risk.

However, should these men really be punished, or should they be let go? Also, how do you feel about gay marriages? Should they have the freedom to do what they want, or should it be illegal?

  1. I believe that gay people should not be punished for who they are and because of who they love. As long as those two men love each other and are happy then I do not see what the problem is. They are not harming anyone in any way. Those men being jailed should be set free immediately. They did not steal or kill anyone. They were simply being married to some one they love. I am christian, so I do believe that man and woman should be married, but if those men truly love each other. I am not going to judge them. This is a very controversial topic so I am sure that others will have very different opinions, but I believe that those men should not be in jail.

  2. I am really glad that you chose an article about gay rights. They should not be punished for living who they want to love because it is none of the governments business. Its sad that some other countries haven't progressed far enough (like Egypt and Russia) to even consider marriage equality. As a member of the LGBTQ community I obviously have no issues with gay marriage and feel like everyone should have equal rights and opportunities. I think these men should be released and the government should leave gays alone.

  3. Honestly, you really do have to put aside whatever your beliefs are or whatever religion you profess to. Why do people put love in the government's hands? Why do people care if one marries a man or woman? I understand, as being raised in a Christian home, what the bible says about gay marriage. But no where in there does it say to lock them up in a cell for loving who they love. That's what bothers me about America, how do we call our country a free country if we cannot marry who we love? Sure, what you may have been raised by says otherwise and yeah, maybe it was unheard of in your town, but it doesn't concern you. I think the world needs to open their eyes and stop bashing love. This is no different than bullying really, a third party denoting someone for their personal beliefs.
